Michael was also featured in print in the Chicago Reader last February. Read his story below:
Among the brave few who venture outside during a blizzard, even fewer look as charming as Michael Miles, who trudged into the white simply to grab a bite to eat. "I dress like this at all times," the Columbia College student says, inclement weather be damned. "My dressing philosophy is be sharp like a knife." Most of his wardrobe is thrifted, and he alters the garments to create a tailored silhouette inspired by old Hollywood stars such as Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Fred Astaire. "I try to project a story with the clothes I'm wearing," Miles says. "This jacket, for example, looks very film noir, very private detective," and it pairs well with his World War II-era gaiters, Wolverine Rockford boots, and sweater tucked into his pants. At Columbia, Miles has taken a few sewing classes, prompting the part-time courier to start a line of cycling gear, Miles Textiles. Check out the collection at etsy.com/shop/MilesTextiles.
